[Edit: The shorts pix were actually taken a couple months ago, Kelly and her dad at Lowe’s store getting treehouse stuff. Yesterday was in the mid 70s but today is is too freaking cold at 31 degrees for anything but warm clothes! Oh, that’s 31 Farenheit, friends! Not that lovely Centigrade.]

I’ve been delighting in a blog by a fellow big-eyed gal for a long long time now, for like… almost two months! What a great place to hang out ’cause no matter how hard the fit may be hitting the shan elsewhere, Lynn only posts good things. Three a day. Every day. Like:
— “Seeing my kitty’s happy face that I am home. Even though she was well looked after by friend Leisa, she missed having me to boss around.”
— “The scent of garlic in the air when entering the church and enjoying a delightfully garlicky meal of lasagna and garlic bread at the church dinner.”
— “This morning on the back porch a butterfly landed on my lap, startling both of us. It flew to a nearby tree to collect itself.”
Pretty wonderful, eh? Hope you will pop in and see her at her blog. Her spirit reminds me a lot of my good buddy Jae here in Austin who has recently started a WordPress blog. (Jae, when ya gonna let me link you up? No pressure, Babe. No pressure.)

And now… Three Good Great Things from Jannie!
1. That husbandly guy in the photo above, he arrived back safe and sound from Canada a few hours ago. Yay!!!!!
2. Those Christmas parcels above? I mailed them to Canada this morning! (And they cost about $5.00 less each to send than I’d budgeted for, whee-hoo.) Was going to send only gift cards but added in a few small trinkets for that personal touch, Kelly had “finger crocheted” necklaces, royal purple color, for all family members, grandpa Duncan included. Will have to post a jpeg of him wearing that someday.
3. That Child depicted above and below, she really likes her dad and me, actually likes hanging around with us. Says she wouldn’t trade us for any other mom and dad in he world. Well, If that don’t beat all!

And, of course, in the interest of Wild Comment Conversation, I ask you, “What are three good things in your world these days?

Let’s say a couple has a 7-year-old daughter who has twin half-sisters who just turned 26 but the little girl doesn’t know about the twins and vice-versa.
And let’s say the twins were kept from their biological father since birth, yet their mother regularly sent cards, letters and picture updates of them from Bermuda, pictures that leave no doubt as to who their (very cute) bio dad and (very cute) little half sister must be. And letters which basically say “I’m sorry. They are your daughters, but this is for the best.” (All letters and pictures, including a jpeg of the twins as recently as a few months ago, saved and intact.)
Forgetting all the billions of gallons of water under now the bridge, if you were the father of the seven-year-old daughter, what would you do?
[Guys, this edit comes after my answer to Karyn’s quest, but before I knew the comments from the Weyrd1 and Lance had come in. You will see so much more of the details in my comment to Karyn’s. Thanks. And although I think you’ve probably picked up on it, the bio dad is only full of love for this whole situation and his wife feels the same. Neither of them would ever wish the Mom any harm, only good really, and it can’t have been an easy road for her to keep this secret from her children for so long.]
Mysteries | Posted by Jannie on 12 December 2008 @ 2:47 PM
This is not really a post. I’m just dripping dropping by on my way to Margaritaville to tell you that for the first time ever in a dream, last night… I actually got to see and talk to Leonard Cohen!!! Inside some cute little adobe cottage I was regaling him and 5 or 6 other strangers ’round an informal dinner counter about how I really love the SpongeBob episode where he has all his party activities planned to the very nanosecond — when suddenly L. Cohen grabs my stockinged foot with his warm foot under the table!
Playing footsies with L. Cohen?
This is quite the L.Cohen dream breakthrough for me as in past ones he was either not at his honorary office at the University of Laval, had already left his little studio that looked quite a bit like this but in black and white, or was off on a mission to Pluto.
Remember, this is not a real post.
(Care to share any of your weird / mysterious dreams?)

OMG, we woke to funny-looking white stuff on our palms this morning!
Palm TREES, that is.
Here, I’ll let Wade Porter tell you all about it, he does a far better job than I could’ve hoped to. [In his “Old Man Winter holds City of Austin in Icy Grip” post] lol writing!

As some of you know, I suffered a bizarre knitting accident a few years ago which left me unable to do memes and housework. But today… Right Now… I will push my outer limits to honor Mama Zen and her gracious meme challenge, tho it means as soon as I post I’ll have to close all the blinds, lie down with cool packs on my eyes and listen to Sounds of Happy Oceans while sipping asparagus tea.
So… “Ten Honest Things About Me” (as opposed to my usual falsified crap.)
1. I once hid the above “It’s Haunted” book for a week when Kelly was two. Just couldn’t hack one single second more of it. Sorry.
2. I used to pretend I was Joni Mitchell.
3. I used to pretend Bob Dylan loved me.
4. Sometimes I pretend I’m taping a cooking show as I prepare dinner. And I’m pretty good, I think, with my witty repartee and attention to dicing and slicing detail, even tho I’m alone and no cameras are actually rolling.
5. To paraphrase how I responded to Stacey‘s guest post on Barbara‘s blog last week, I dream of a future where little children run with joyful abandon through the streets shouting “Jannie Funster! Jannie Funster!”
6. When I run I keep my car key and a Chapstick in my bra.
7. I always cry when I hear Iz’s “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” on my car radio. If you haven’t heard it, here it is. I recommend closing your eyes to listen. [But as Lance pointed out, probably best not to close eyes if it’s playing while you’re driving]
8. On our two-week vacation to Canada this past summer I didn’t eat a single green salad the entire time, substituting that fare for two a day of the pastries and candy bars of my childhood, below.

(I totally recommend freezing both a la Thelma in “Thelma and Louise” before munching. OMG. And I don’t recommend lack of greens as a regular dietary habit.)
9. I forget why Earth’s core is so hot and molten.
10. When I almost passed out a couple of months ago I was sure I was dying or suffering a brain stem aneurism that would leave me forever locked-in. But it passed. And here I am, a Big Bad Meme Breaker who will not pass this on as such, but will invite you to share “An Honest Thing” or more about you, if you feel so inclined. Thanks.
Now, to that asparagus tea.
[See! See what a bad memer I am — I didn’t even tag anyone as Caity suggested. I’m just awful and now nobody on the internets will ever want anything to do with me ever again. I’m finished. Washed up. A has-been before I ever really was. Well, it was fun while it lasted.]
