Sometimes in dreams I’ll forget that she’s dead
and I’ll see her dancing on the wing of a plane
or waving good-bye from the back of a train.
Or laughing on a gurney, as if she’d never gone.
As if we’d never cried and laid her in the ground.
And if my dreams keep this up, how will I ever
know if I’m dead or alive when my time comes?

Me: That’s about your grandmother. What do you think?
She: That’s not a poem.
Me: What?
She: It doesn’t even rhyme.
(Edit: I should add this is my husband’s mom, she died 5 years ago at the age of 97. She was 95 in this photo and Kelly 10 months old.)

Update on Nov. 6th at 1:53 p.m. Just found a wrapped Tootsie Roll in my extra blanket!!
Don’t let that seemingly innocent-looking face on Sweety the dacshund fool you. Last night I walked into Kelly’s room to find him sniffing in the laundry basket, which usually means he’s retrieving an old pizza crust or a dried-up peanut or some other treasure he’s hidden in case of future starvation, except this pizza crust was making the strange crackling noise of a… Kit Kat bar!
Finally an answer to the candy wrappers mystery. I’d been finding some around the past few days and knew Kelly wasn’t the culprit because she knows that no matter how bad the truth may seem, it’s the only way to go. So it was a canine pumpkin pilferer who stole candy and hid it. Lord only knows where more of his stash could be.
Oh, you should’ve seen his joy when he saw me bring out the pumpkin a few minutes ago. Sorry, no treats for you Sweety-Boy, but please say “cheese” for the photo?

I wasn’t going to post again until Monday to remain all mysterious and such and see if my last post would break 40 comments but I must interrupt my planned shallowness to tell you my Gravatar‘s working! MY GRAVATAR”S WORKING!!! Yay! It’s really a dream come true. Still a bit unsure about My Big Eye but wtf.
(If anyone wants Gravatar guidance in WordPress, I’m your Jan!)
Plus, I now know how to put a picture in my sidebar, (as you can palinly see.) (OMG. Palin-ly see! I kid thee not. I did not plan that.)
Yes, Bulldog, my bords on a wire never cease.
And… I learned how to change the background color on here today, not exactly what I had in mind as I was aiming to see the “Starry” GIF I stole from John McCain’s site create a nice pattern along either side of the body of this site. Oh well. Can’t have everything in one day.
Yours in loving mysteriosity…
Jannie
Oh, here’s Kelly from yesterday at 6:15 p.m. after I interrupted her Goosebumps show to have her put on her Halloween dress for some pictures on the front walkway while the natural light was still relatively good. (And I probably should read my camera’s booklet (Thanks, Barbara!) to learn how to use it better.) You might get a sharper image if you click on them.

Today…

Last week…

Two weeks ago…

I don’t know why gas has dropped so much lately but I have to admit the short-term part of me really likes this. Oh, the crazy luxuries I’ve been buying lately — milk, bread and eggs. Hamburger. Dish soap!
The long-term part of me knows we need to free ourselves from oil dependancy, like Brazil. I wonder if we ever will?

72 years ago today Dunk was born in the house where he’s lived all his life – the house his dad and his dad and his dad were born in too. Farm dwelling built c. 1830 by my drunk happy Irish ancestors who thought they’d found Hawaii. Not quite. But it’s a good place to be, most of the time. Spent 18 years there myself.
Below is the note Kelly included with her grandpa’s birthday card…
