The Kelly Way Of Putting On Suspenders

The Pea, Videos | Posted by Jannie on 29 November 2010 @ 2:12 PM 46 Comments

Hey, Kiddoes!

I had so much fun up in my tree earlier today, picking 5 of you to receive the poetry books, but a technical issue prevents me from uploading that video now, sorry.  (Need to free up a bit of storage first, I think.)

So let’s say… a week from today on that?  Bravo!

Meantime, there’s an elfin dancer for you.

She walked in looking like that night before last, and 30 seconds later I was taping.

She had not danced until the video — lucky us to witness!

How ’bout you, my friend?

Will you hop up now with a little singing dance wherever you are??!

Don’t be shy.  Your co-workers might join in on same!

Oh, her introduction is…

“Welcome to the Nerdy Show.  This week’s topic? You’ll find out.”

(Priceless.)

🙂

Love, Jannie

Austin_Trail_Fall_2010

And that’s a photo I took on The Trail this morning — such a soft, refreshing so-glad-to-be-alive morning!

I know one of my good blogging  friends is also having computer issues, so she can at least see the pic, if not the enfin dancer video until she gets to MB’s computer, (if she’s not on MB’s computer when she reads this.)

Temp on my walk this morning about 64 F.

Currently 66, with a high of 76 expected.

I gotta go start my dishes now!

And make a gigantic salad with 10 things in it for my sweet-loving, good-looking Jimmy!!!

Then have a bath!!!

(But perhaps not necessarily in that order.  Dishes may have to wait!) (As usual.)  🙂

Guess What I’m Thinking?

The Pea | Posted by Jannie on 15 November 2010 @ 6:05 AM 37 Comments

halloween_santa_2010

So, I’m out of my songwriting woodshed — whooo-hooo!!

It was good, tho. Got my guitar callouses thickened up.

Got more words tucked into my melodies.

Got some logs split.

I’ve not yet sprinted up my tree to pick the poetry book winners, but I will, and post the video early next week.

But enough about me!

santa_halloween_2010

You know that kid I mention here once in a while?

Even show pictures of her?

The one who dressed herself as Santa this Halloween, and her doll as an elf?

santa_trick_or_treats

She and I play a lot of  “Guess What I’m Thinking,” like 20 Questions. Only we allow 100 questions.

And give lots of hints. At least I give hints. Her? Not so much.

Yesterday, after she said making her guess ‘policeman’ was “too specific,” and I said “what’s wrong with being specific in the game,” she came up with a few specifics of her own…

20_questions_tough

Needless to say, Jannie did not guess any correctly. Jannie gave up well before 100 questions.

Jannie headed back to the woodshed with some beer.

And some chocolate cake.

I think those last two are my faves…

—  a purplish-pink door that survived a white tornado in Sudan in 1973 but was later destroyed by a fleet of angry bees.

— a greenish-purple 586 legged possum with glasses and a mustache eating pistachio ketchup ice cream in the White House on 10/25/3058.

And you were probably thinking I was the eccentric one in the family?

You know she’s got me topped.

Oh yeah, waaay topped.

That’s my girl!

P.S. The hat Kirsten (the doll) is wearing is the one that came with Kelly’s dress.

A Young Ghoul Orders Salt Water Taffy — a poem

Family, House Style, The Pea | Posted by Jannie on 31 October 2010 @ 12:57 PM 38 Comments

the_ghoul_orders_taffy

A young ghoul applies her make-up

in the rear-view mirror while perched

on the centre console of Mom’s car.

ghoul_1

The young ghoul alternately mans

the Haunted House, bounces, runs,

skips, laughs and cartwheels around

with her friends for 4 hours, while

the mom, altho a freak downpour

had destroyed her fluffy hairdo

during set-up, manages to flit socially,

then enjoy her 1-hour shift at the

food table, eat a bunch of excellent

assorted homemade sugary crap,

2 pieces pepperoni pizza, 8 mini packs

of gluten-free gummy bears and one

raspberry Izze (heavenly) natural soda,

then goes home to wine, a relaxing bath

and hugs with the loving car-dealer hubs,

who actually did pop in for a while at the

carnival, as he does to all school things.

He is a very very good dad and person,

like another good dad and person I know,

who’s a very talented writer, and so witty!

And here is that Jimmy last week, laying

some pine flooring in the house entry…

which looked like this a few months ago…

a house additon he built himself.

(See the railing up the stairs now!?? Yep — Jimmy’s been a busy bee.)

(End poem of inspired by photos of Kelly last week at her school carnival, and by thoughts of her awesome dad.)

She wants to be Santa for tonight (if I can find her dress) the one she wore at age 5 in this photo…

santa_at_5

(Bought with a cute little matching hat at a post-Christmas sale for $20 when she was 4.)

Bought BIG, and has fit quite a while!

But where is it now?

Somewhere.

If she can’t be Santa tonight, there’s always her vampire plan.

[Edit.  I found the dress!  I found the dress!!  Last place I looked — with all the Chirstmas stuff!  Whoo-hoo!!!!]

So… lots more photos to come in future happy posts.

If you liked this poem, many ghoul-and-succubus-with-a-twist-of-chocolate-and-cheese stunners can be found often over at my favorite poet’s

Thank you!

And a very Happy Halloween to all of you — my wonderful blogging guys and ghouls.

Then…

I’ll climb My Other Wine-Drinking Tree to draw the winning comment from my pink John Deere cap — while singing, of course!!!

Speaking of winners… you 6 CD winners they’re not yet mailed, but will be in the next 2 to 9 days!

And a box of practically new, but mis-matched socks will be sent for Christmas to another awesome dad / blogger / human.

Remembering The Blanton The Summer You Were Five

Poetry, The Pea | Posted by Jannie on 18 October 2010 @ 6:06 AM 44 Comments

One_time_in_a_garden

Who’d ever guess from that sweet little face
that you were a bloody terror that summer?

That your motor was stuck on two speeds
— running ahead and lagging behind?

That you’d stop any lady on the street
to inquire what was in her handbag?
Some obliged.
(In restrospect that was kinda funny, I guess.)

That you asked the stylist if he had a penis,
then ran around the salon, to leave with no haircut?

That we were the only ones the arms-folded
frowning guard followed around the Blanton?

Yes, the same day as this…

Golden_Blanton_summer_of_2007

It’s been over 3 years since the Blanton.
Can we go back there this Wednesday?
Then try a new cafe somewhere?

I promise I’ll behave this time.

Love, Mom

P.S.

(The first photo was taken at Suzie’s.)

(In the middle photo, it’s bones above and pennies below.)

(In the last photo the yellow things hanging were something like surgical tubing. I hear that sculpture’s gone now, boo hoo.)

You Will Sit In Cafes — a poem

Photography, Poetry, The Pea | Posted by Jannie on 3 October 2010 @ 1:43 PM 45 Comments

cowgirl_cafe

You will sit in cafes

in Paris and Vienna

with your grandmother’s eyes,

your other grandmother’s smile

and your own funny sunny ways.

silly_band_penguins

You will sit in cafes,

when you are grown,

where the dust of my

hook_em_horns

words will have settled

onto the tables and chairs

and into the deepest

libraries of your heart.

So, I must continue to

be conscious that my words

are sweet and caring.

And continue to say

“I’m sorry” when I mess up.

silly_band_silly

You will sit in cafes

and travel smilingly happy,

for you are made of love.

P.S. Dear Readers, do you know of this Silly Bandz craze?  Mama Z, has Baby Puppy fallen under the spell of these?
