Your Deepest Desire

When you were four your deepest desire was a kitten.

Boy, did you want that little kitty above! Remember!?  But he belonged to someone else.

Wasn’t it great when you got Kit-Kat the next year!?

Kitty_Kelly_july_2006_790

He’s still an awesome cat! He and you growed real good.

Then your deepest desire became a baby sister, which didn’t happen. Sorry.

(Supermarket check-out baby you wanted! Her mom wasn’t quite ready to give her away.)

I hope you’ll have bunches and bunches of kids of your own some day.

Being Grannie Jannie will be a great gig, I’m sure. The best.

NOW… your deepest desire is to be an actress.

And I say “Why not?! ”

Why the heck not, Kelly?  Go for it.  Your dad and I will be there with you every step of the way.

(She made that little commercial up on the spot herself.)

(The clip is one I think we could use as part of an audtion tape to be submitted before an agent will even consider looking at her.)

What do y’all think of this child acting business?

Any advice for a possible future “stage mom?”

Laguna Gloria, Austin Texas

One time a girl and her mother stepped out of a Honda

in Austin, Texas onto the grounds of a castle in Spain.

Or was it Italy?

The Mother gets those romance lands all mixed up.

Anyhoo, the Girl and The Mother

lunched on linen (or at least pretended to,)

then strolled the grounds with parasols

down the statued path

through the gazebo garden

past wide palms

and ancient oaks

to the marsh at the lake.

(Marsh left to your imagination.)

And eventually back to the Honda again.

This Honda… (You’ve seen it before enricing my her life.)

enriced

(‘cept these days I, whoops — I mean “The Mother” is back in a Toyota.)

After The Mother posts this she will lunch,

then Google the chords for “All Along The Watch Tower,”

which she is excited about learning on her blue Pignose guitar,

the guitar The Child was playing in this photo when she was 5,

the guitar The Mother got when she was in The Funsters band.

The Mother is thinking those chords might come in handy

for a new song she is writing called “Banana Seat Bicycle.”

Then The Mother will head out to lop 10 small tree branches to

start making table centrepieces for the big gala next month.

(That last part is the God’s-honest truth!)

(More in a future post, on what may end up being 60 centerpieces!)

See y’all later, my Cuties!

Inspired by her tree decorating last week, Kelly then directed and starred in this rendition of Silent Night.

Happy day.

That Kooky Kelly

I leaned the wrapped tree against the wall and walked back to pay the lady.

When I turned around guess who was doing what to the tree? Yep!

All less-than-50 lbs of her schlepping that thing to me.

Tree weighs around 30 lbs.

(She did not drop it!)

I like that kid.

Cute as all get out. Even in unimpressive quality iPhone photos.

(I’m pretty sure I overheard elves talking about a better camera coming my way Christmas morning.  But don’t let on to the elves, okay? I’m still on probation with them over that whole whiskey in Santa’s milk thing last year.)

But back to that kid.

She comes in real handy.

Like today, decorated the tree all by herself.

Now that’s my kind of decorating!  I sit in my comfy chair watching The Child create the magic.

Tune in soon for another chapter in Kooky Town.

And have a super, super great day!!

Or night, as the case may be.

Love, Jannie

The workmen one street over

are bouncing on pogo sticks

atop slabs awaiting framing.

They are constantly singing,

earlier Leonard Cohen mostly.

Sometimes Neil Diamond.

Occasional Madonna.

Now they are beating drums

and marching, the guy with the

nail gun spinning cartwheels,

the one dressed as Snow White

twirling dual flaming batons

and contemplating sequins.
