dream_gymnastics

I found inspiring places to work on my flexibility, like the Texas State Capitol

texas_State_aquarium_awesome

and the Corpus Christi aquarium.

you_can_do_the_splits_anywhere

Aquariums are also great places to work on splits,

A_nice_pool_for_gymnastics

as are hotel pools,

Corpus_christi_north_beach

and the beach.

when_at_the_beach

Speaking of the beach, I made like a seagull there.

my_dad_is_awesome

Dad LOVES the beach.

And I love Dad!!

young_helmsgirl

I drove the harbor ferry in Corpus!

corpus_harbour_cruise

Well not really, but I toured the wheelhouse, enjoyed a cruise,

Landrys_Corpus

then lunched aboard a restaurant yacht.

a_happy_corpus_christi_parrott

Met a happy parrot that day too.

Summer_2013_so_far_9

Back at home I met ducks

face_time

and iPhone video-chatted with my gym-mate.

ye_pool_party_team_2013

LOVED the gymnastics pool party!!

I like how as the gracious hostess was taking that, Mom was catching us from behind…

very_gracious_home_2

The hosts’ daughter is a talented gymnast too.

Olympics, here we all come!!!

I could do it — I’ll be 18 summer of 2020.

Summer_2013_so_far_11

Or I could go the college gymnastics route, where I’ll study art, design, photography, writing, and film-making.

We’ll see. My goal is to see just how far I can go with gymnastics.

What else this summer?

Hung out with E.

Summer_2013_so_far_6

Got my groove on with S.

Yes, that’s a big bass and I’m very small for my age — 3rd percentile on both height and weight.

And absolutely PERFECT for me!!

texas_capital_chamber

Tomorrow I’ll be back in school — 7th grade.

[edit, and my mom is awesome!!!!!]

love,

Kelly Funster.

P.S. Mom is heading into her busiest 4 to 6 weeks of the year, and will be blogging even less than her already-light schedule of late.

And… she thinks YOU are awesome!!

(Yes, those are Mom’s toes in the last photo. She’s really weird, as you know.)

Kelly’s Newest Balance Beam Skills

Gymnastics, The Pea | Posted by Jannie on 18 August 2013 @ 11:17 PM 21 Comments

I’m not sure if these are basic skills for Level 6 or 7, ’cause I’m kind of a gymnastics newbie, learning as I go.

Whatever level, she’s doing AWESOMELY — as you can see!! Only 18 months ago she was a Level 4.

Notice she lands her back handspring with both feet at once? She tells me that’s a “double down” landing. Cool!

At the gym she is known to stick all these on the high beam!

I can’t wait to see her new amazingness on vault, floor and bars too, and when I do… you’ll get more video, whooohoooo.

Hope you enjoyed watching and….. Vive Les Gymnastiques! [CORRECTION, thanks to Happiness Best Savored Hot … Vive LA Gymnastique! Merci beaucoup!! And Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler.]

Super Kelly Beam Girl

Just Good Stuff, The Pea | Posted by Jannie on 4 March 2013 @ 11:59 AM 49 Comments

Considering Kelly’s been in Level 6 gymnastics for only 5 weeks, I’d say her 9.45 score for that routine in Dallas yesterday, earning her 2nd place for beam in her age group, is a darn fine achievement!

She also placed 2nd for her floor routine, with a 9.3.

She loves everything about gymnastics!

I do too! Of course, I’m just the chauffeur and check-writer, but the sport is wonderful and she has the best training you can imagine with really wonderful people!!

And due to their great scores yesterday, Kelly and her mates will advance to Level 7 in June!!

texas_super_seven_2

Now, beautiful and handsome friends….. I may not be posting here again for a month as another lady and I are sharing a business venture that needs a lot of time and attention. Might take only 2-3 weeks, tho. We’ll see how it goes.

I’ll be out to see you all at some point.

Have fun and laugh muchly every day, okay?! Life is beautiful.

Love, Jannie

They Still Don’t Know

where their red hair comes from

but that’s okay, it comes from love’s

ocean we’re all mermaiding in.

_____

it comes from the doctor’s daughter who

in 1916 at age 10 posed in a Nova Scotia

summergarden with a chestnut violin.

_____

it comes from the pines and the lilacs

of the dance hall she bought on auction

with 700 borrowed dollars in 1942,

_____

the dance hall now in arrears,

but with my loving intention will shine

up the seashells again in seven years.

_______

(because all love is up to me.)

______

one day, the invisible red thread that ties us all together

will reveal how after her too-young Episcopalian minister

husband died suddenly and unexpectedly of heart attack,

_____

she took up buying and selling

antiques for the next 35 years,

finally closing shop at age 85

_____

and her eyes at age 97.

_____

how she never remarried, but

for a while had a beau who landed

on the beach in front of her house

to take her flying by seaplane.

_____

how she loved silver

blue cotton sundresses

a glass of white a night

her 3 sons, their wives

her grandchildren,

______

and went on to outlive

all her sisters and friends,

but not the lilacs, and

_____

not the love writing

this bottled message

here in Texas today.

will 2 red-haired angels

one day get to be friends

with a little half-sister,

______

maybe show her around

all the secret caves and coves

of the island they call home?

_________

I hope so!

________

but who knows?

who knows how it

all will go, really?

_____

i sure don’t, but

my money’s on the love

and on the red string

_____

that knows all

the best waves are

still yet to come.
