it would be about two
pairs of golf shoes soon to
dance away on eBay,
a Chocolate Sun
spray tanner dreaming of
honeymoons in Hawaii,
and the joy of labels printed
at home today on my brand -new
pre-owned Canon!!!! And…
about a kitten who peed twice
in a dishwasher, then weeks later
boldly returned to the scene.

I’d show you a mother like child,
how she makes me laugh and I make
her laugh with unexpected snacks.
(Yes, that’s a marshmallow on a toothpick!)

I’d show you a sister like brother
and remind you friend to friend, love
keeps on going forever and ever.
Yes, if I were to write
a poem today all that and
more would be in it, but
______________
I’m not writing poems
today — I’m eBaying, as
you can plainly see…

For 30 years I searched
every face in every airport
and train station for yours.
For 30 years I waited
in cafes and grand piazzas,
on balconies and beaches.
I dipped my eyes into
every city I thought your
laughter could be hiding.
Left my smile’s shadows
in baskets on doorsteps
in Paris and Dublin.
Sometimes I’d see you
on the other side of the
glass, clearing Customs
or your airplane
would be heading
to Alaska as mine
was heading back
to The Southwest.
Sometimes you’d be
an ivory silk scarf left
on a park bench.
Or the first tinge
of yellow on the maple
at my attic window.
Others you’d be the
first snow or a strain of
“Angie” on the wind.
But you were always
the lilacs and ladders
leading to spring.
Always the lilies
I only had to open
the eyes in my
heart to see.

For a dear dear long-lost teenhood friend I’ve recently been blessed to hear from again via The Net after 30 years!
He saw one of my singing videos on someone’s blog and — voila!!

Annnnd….
The reason no one on eBay bid on the practically-new Rockport walking shoes Jim bought at a yard sale (in MY exact style, size and color) is……
The Universe wanted ME to have them!!!
Oh yeah, Baby — you know I’ll be stylin’ ’round town in those!
I really like The Universe!
Do you?
I photographed the little figurine above yesterday and put it up on eBay this morning.
She (or he?) sits about 8″ tall.
See my other figure here.

Sometimes a postcard will sail into your harbor
and sometimes you’ll only watch one float along
someone else’s horizon and into their mail box.
But you can always be the postcard yourself,
splashing your thoughts and words out to places like
Montreal, Michigan, Minsk, Montana & Maine*
via The Internet like this.
Or via the inter net of love we’re
all so deliciously entangled in.
And the poems just keep on coming for dVerse Poetry Open Link Tuesday!
🙂
Yes, I sailed those 21 out the other day.
Have any made port yet, I wonder?
One day I’ll announce a give-away here for 2 packs of those uplifting cards to 2 lucky winners!
* Yes, Sara — read that puppy out loud, Girl!!

let’s go down to the river
and fill our socks with rocks
and moss and popsicles.
let’s climb the vines to
heaven’s rooftop garden,
turn day’s dimmer down
and disappear into
dustings of gold on a
castle’s windowsill.
and let’s remember —
love is always the castle and
we are always the gold.
(or, an even better ending
here on June 14th 2014…)
we are the castles
and love is the gold!
My beer for the Party Today.
Dedicated to all who ever read this.
And to all who ever won’t.

Edited the poem a bit at 3:58 Texas Time on Wednesday, August 1st, 2012.
It needed a castle.
