Love Beats Hate — a poem

North_Carolina_March_2002

I hate saying the word hate.
But I already have 3 times
since I started this post.

(4 times now, with that photo.)

Kelly says, “I hate this game.”
“I hate this cheese.” “I hate that team.”
“I hate you,” the latter last evening.

(I lost my patience and yelled at her,
so she was probably justified in that.
Both forgiven now. Today all new.)

Forgiveness is the ultimate love.

(Be sure to forgive yourself.)

Some people who were not held
sweetly as babies set up web pages
for the sake of hate against others.

Others say snide things about people
on their blogs because they are fearful,
and being mean often gets them a laugh.

(And I thought this LoveBeatsHate thing
would be hard to write about, but look at me
finding words here in this luuuv “hotseat.”)

Love seat?

🙂

The swing above was
a loveseat Kelly, Peach
and I shared in March 2002
in North Carolina.

Love is good.

I choose love.

Love is something you do.

Love is reigning.

Love (not Coke,) is it.

“When we judge we leave no room for love.” — Mother Theresa.

Love is in me.

Love is in you.

Love IS me.

Love IS you.

“Love power
It rules us
takes over
and shoes us.”)

(I don’t think
that last line
is correct, but
it does make
sense to me)

because

My Wonderful Friend, Suzie, the sunshine gal in this pic (at Kelly’s 5th birtday party,)

Suzie_Amber_Kelly_N_me4

recently gave me a pair of black ALL-leather Kenneth Cole shoes, ones her mother bought for her at a yard sale in Texarcana, but were a little too small for Suzie.

Whoo-hoooo!!

Love is the way to go.

Love is a gift you give yourself.

How will YOU choose love today?

Everybody’s beautiful
Just the way we are
Everybody’s made of love
And little bits of stars
Everybody’s beautiful
Everybody shines, from the
Light we’re all created from
Brighter all the time…

Let Us Be Good To Each Other — a poem for my friend

Friends, Poetry | Posted by Jannie on 27 October 2010 @ 1:13 AM 56 Comments

a_city_to_love

I returned home from my walk yesterday
where I’d taken these pictures, to an email

from a good blogging friend here in Austin
to read he’s dying from pancreatic cancer.

I won’t mention his name, as I’m not sure
he’d want that, but please know he’s always

been more than a good friend ever since I
first lured him into this den of funiquity.

He’s popped in here time and time again.
He bought my cd and wrote it up nicely.

His comments make me laugh and laugh.
His blog posts make me laugh too. And think.

He’s really an amazing writer, deep and witty.
More gifted than these words will ever say.

His e-mail explained why he’s been so scarce
around the blogosphere these past months.

(And I thought I’d pissed him off with my
2nd vs 5th amendment comment on his blog.)

I should’ve known something else was up.
(There but for the grace of others go I.)

love_one_another

In his email he thanked me for being kind to
him and for all my encouragement of his blog.

He told me how much he appreciated me and
wished me and my family much joy always.

People, I have never met this friend in person,
yet you see how deeply he has touched my heart.

I know now why I snapped these 3 pix yesterday
on a spot of the trail I find especially magical.

They were meant for him somehow, for his love
of this city he has lived in so long, for his love

of Texas, family, history, life, laughter, writing.
For the blessing of him and his friendship to me.

I will leave you with some of the words I replied
to his e-mail with … “I will raise my glass and

my eyes and my heart to you and the stars and
to friendship always when I think of your spirit.”

Friends, let us love one another. Deeply and always.
Let us put any differences aside and let love reign.

Love Jannie

Funstering Friends, 2

Friends, Sidebar Buttons | Posted by Jannie on 27 September 2010 @ 7:37 AM 40 Comments

People ask,

“Jannie, why do you make those sidebar buttons, anyway?!”

And I answer…

“Why plant flowers when so many already grow?

Why write songs, paint, sketch, sculpt, or weave words into poems and stories when so much art already exists?

Why keep dancing and laughing and flinging our kilts to the wind?

WHY sail these friend buttons out to sea?

Simply… because love is waiting everywhere and every day’s a celebration.

and dont werry, Groovy_BB_avatargroovie babees,

I mean, don’t worry!

All buttons that roll down and drop off my sidebar will reappear in a recap post like this.

(Funstering Friends are Excellent Humans who pop in and out of this blog,

and ones who may or may not pop in, but whose sites I like.)

(The first Friends recap was here.)

(Yes I’m getting better at the buttons, thank you for noticing.)

🙂

AND…

in stunning conclusion to this sidebar button post, here are a couple recent self-portrait attempts to show you how clean I got my spare ribs pan one day.

When I Think Of Barbara Swafford…

… I hear teaspoons clinking,

smell apple pie baking,

see lupines blazing on an ocean hill.

I think of a caring hand

on a feverish forehead,

chicken soup on a tray.

But mostly I think of

pine shavings

floating into drifts

at the feet of

happy angels

whittling

wondrously whimsied wood

into the wisest of wishes.
