More priceless than all the golden bras in the world, and the happy flinging thereof

Recently Liz Strauss over at her very Successful (and outstanding,) Blog asked “What’s Priceless To You?” to which I responded….  “My daughter’s laugh.  My husband’s whistle.  My dad’s elfish grin.  My mom’s beef stew.  My cat finally coming to snuggle beside me now that the nights are cold.”
How about you?  What’s priceless in your life?

Caught red-pawed!

Update on Nov. 6th at 1:53 p.m. Just found a wrapped Tootsie Roll in my extra blanket!!
Don’t let that seemingly innocent-looking face on Sweety the dacshund fool you. Last night I walked into Kelly’s room to find him sniffing in the laundry basket, which usually means he’s retrieving an old pizza crust or a dried-up peanut or some other treasure he’s hidden in case of future starvation, except this pizza crust was making the strange crackling noise of a… Kit Kat bar!
Finally an answer to the candy wrappers mystery.  I’d been finding some around the past few days and knew Kelly wasn’t the culprit because she knows that no matter how bad the truth may seem, it’s the only way to go.   So it was a canine pumpkin pilferer who stole candy and hid it.  Lord only knows where more of his stash could be.
Oh, you should’ve seen his joy when he saw me bring out the pumpkin a few minutes ago.  Sorry, no treats for you Sweety-Boy, but please say “cheese” for the photo?

Happy 72nd, Dad!!

72 years ago today Dunk was born in the house where he’s lived all his life – the house his dad and his dad and his dad were born in too.  Farm dwelling built c. 1830 by my drunk happy Irish ancestors who thought they’d found Hawaii.  Not quite.  But it’s a good place to be, most of the time.  Spent 18 years there myself.
Below is the note Kelly included with her grandpa’s birthday card…

a blip

It was sure hard keeping up the funstering mood after I read a two-line excerpt on someone’s blog about someone else taking their old dog for one last walk in the woods the morning he was to be put to sleep and I start crying to myself and the computer and the sunlight blasting through the window, remembering the day I had to put Chance down and missing him all over again like I lost him just yesterday, not 4 years ago.
And sometimes I already miss the dog we have who is 11,  Peach.  But Shih-tzus live pretty long, so she should be with us for more years yet, right?  Still, I know the day is coming.
And it’s all so unfair.  And it’s all so sad.
But a lot of it is beautiful.  And a lot of it is sweet.  And the best is supposed to come yet.
So I hung on until I stop crying.
And got a bit of a grip.   And went and hugged Peach real close for a while.  And came back and wrote this.
But it’s all a blip really.   Just a freaking blip.  And my blip is probably close to being half way over now.
So I better darn well get on with some funstering!
[The first photo above is of Peach, our shih-tzu, who just turned 11, taken about 4 years ago, Kelly was 3 in that one, I think, after one of her self-cut episodes.)  Second photo of Carly, Peach and Kelly a few years ago too.]
[I didn’t start taking digital photos until after our dog, Chance (Peach’s dad,) had passsed on and I don’t have a scanner yet to show you him, but believe me he was one cute little Westie – Lhasa – Poodle kind of white fluffy sweetheart of a guy.]
