Taking Blog Stock

Blogging | Posted by Jannie on 29 January 2009 @ 11:31 AM 59 Comments

Have you noticed I’ve been posting to my blog every other day lately?  Do you think that’s too often?
Have you also noticed since I started hunkering down with my gee-tar a couple hours a day,  I’ve been visiting y’all’s blogs a bit less?  And how are you with that?  How would you feel if I only got to your blog and commented once or twice a week?
And for purposes of me taking blog stock would you classify my blog as “all about me?”  Barbara Swafford over at her very successful site, Blogging Without A Blog, in a recent post called How To Lose Blog Visitors, talks about selfish blogs that are “all about me” and I’m wondering if I come across like that.  And believe me – I can take honest constructive criticism!  (I’m weird that way, well, I’m weird in many ways – as you all know.)
Is there anything you would like to see me post more (or less,) about?
And just a tad unrelatedly, now that my favorite old sweat pants have a big rip in the left buttock area, should I patch them up?   Or cremate them, followed by a fitting memorial service?
(Yes, that’s my actual gee-tar up there on our actual sofa that miraculously escaped the bunny-munching, unlike its matching loveseat and chair.)

And some SEO in a pear tree

So, I missed the “Austin WordPress Meet-up” Tuesday because of a big accident on Mopac and after slogging it out for 45 mins  I took the next exit and went home, devouring 6 or 7 of these on the way.
(I like the grape ones best.  Boy-Howdy iz dey good!)
Anyway, one of the Meet-Up guys has emailed requesting me as a friend, so that’s encouraging in my WordPress quest.   Or maybe he’s just likes Big-Eyed avatar gals?
Here’s what I need I’d like for my blog.
1.  Time and date in comments box.
2.  Get fonts corrected and get rid of the default double-spacing every time I hit Enter.
3.  Stumble Upon.
4. Figure out why my WordPress Stats plugin is not working, tho activated.  (Maybe Google Analytics can work just as well?)
5. Get that WordPress SEO plugin that Blogger For Hire Vered mentioned, which will hopefully work when activated.
6.  Find out what the heck “Key, Value and Action” are in “Custom Fields” in my “Advanced Options” towards the bottom of the page where I write my posts.
7.  See why I’ve been unsuccessful at changing my favicon.
8.  Drink a margarita, a really big one.
How ’bout you?  Any bugs in your blog?  Anything you want to add or get rid of?  Any plug-ins on your wish list?
P.S.  I mentioned this Wordpress theme, “Bible Scholar” was designed by a pastor, right?   I wonder what he’d think if he came here to read about my bra flinging, ass-kicking, Wedgie Wedding & such.  Actually, I wonder what God Himself thinks about my blog, but that’s a whole other post!

Why do you blog?

That post the other day ended up being quite a hoot,  for me anyway.   Felt great to finally admit that I’m really a Russian violinist named Boris who has 62 cats and loves to do cartwheels in produce aisles.
One question I really liked, “Why do you blog?” was posed by the ever-elegant Blogger For Hire Vered and part of my answer to her was “to become really really famous and have people ’round the world now and far in the future think I’m wonderful and maybe someday I’ll get a bumper sticker fashioned in my honor that says “Jannie Funster Rocked!” Sure, part of me thinks it’d be cool to be famous but mostly I think it would be better to be this good old unfamous-yet-much-loved Jannie.
I actually think the biggest reason I blog is for the same reason I love to share songs I wrote – to be heard.
And I ask you — why do you blog and / or how did you first get into blogging ?

Why Thursdays Rule

Blogging, Kelp Knitting | Posted by Jannie on 13 November 2008 @ 4:02 PM 50 Comments

Before I get into Thursdays… these “Carpool Kids” photos I took last Wednesday really, in my very humble opinion, seem to pop when enlarged.  And I think the top of a post is a great spot to slide in a photo for maxium impact and blog promotion, don’t you?
Relatedly, here’s a great Liz Strauss post about blog photos.
And Bloggers, if you have any articles or posts about photos in posts, please feel free to leave said links in my comments, thanks.
THURSDAYS!  I already love Thursdays because Kelly stays for afterschool, which she loves, and allows me another 2 1/2 hours to knit those kelp ball gowns and dance with my dog.
But, brace yourself (with an underwire bra, sideways,) ’cause it gets even better!  Starting next week Sarah’s mom will drive Kelly to school on Thursday mornings!  (She used to do Friday pick-up.)
Thursdays!  8:00 a.m to until 4:50 p.m entirely for ME !!!
But, please don’t hate me for being spoiled – remember,  this is my hair in the morning.
Plus, I deserve a whole day for me, right?   And I will be working of course, on songs and stuff.
And taking a 45-min bath.
I am curious…  What is YOUR favorite day(s,) of the week and why?

Addicted in Austin (now w update)

Update:  I think I can do computer from 10:00 to 11:30 p.m. (still get 7 hours sleep,) and surf for a coupla hours during the day  —  as long as I run 2 to 3 miles 4x weekly and remember to make a conscious effort to suck my abs in 17 times a day.
Now, back to the originally scheduled post…
Can anyone suggest how to get by on a lot less sleep?
Like could I get down to maybe 4-5 hours a night?
‘Cause 11:00 p.m to 2:00 a.m is such prime blogging time.

(My desktop computer corner about 2 years ago, the one day in history said corner was actually tidy.)
